Many attempts (the recently released Home Sweet Home Alone being the latest) have been made to repeat the success tasted by the original, but nothing has been able to match their magic. Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House is a 2002 American made-for-television. While credit for penning the film’s ingenious story goes to John Hughes, it was Macaulay Culkin’s charismatic presence on-screen as the sharp-witted Kevin that stole the show, making the film and the sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, box office hits. Their biggest blunder? Considering Kevin to be a puny kid and thinking that they will be able to easily outsmart him. But while Kevin’s mother, Kate (Catherine O’Hara) is desperately trying to return to her son, Kevin is faced with two thieves, who make the McCallister house their target and are determined to steal everything. At home, Kevin, who believes that he made his family magically disappear, loves his newfound freedom, but eventually, he starts missing everyone. It isn’t until the family is in the air that they realize Kevin’s absence. The original Home Alone saw Macaulay Culkin play the wayward eight-year-old Kevin McCallister who is accidentally left behind at home while his family leaves for Paris. Would a Home Alone reunion be worth it without the three above-mentioned actors, especially Macaulay Culkin, whose magnificent portrayal of the mischievous, brave, and clever Kevin McCallister made the 1990 film a holiday classic? Not only did Culkin attain celebrity status overnight post the film’s release, Home Alone went on to be a major box office success, earning $476.7 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing comedy-drama until 2011, when The Hangover Part II took over the title. “So who knows what’s going to happen in the future?” In Home Alone (1990) ten-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is banished to his room while his family prepare for a Christmas trip to Europe. ![]() Apparently, while the other members of the extended McCallister family have been keeping in touch, Macaulay Culkin, Catherine O’Hara, and Kieran Culkin are missing from the reunion plans. “The family is moving on their own accord to get together,” he shared. He also revealed that they have been planning a mini Home Alone reunion online. Recently, Devin Ratray sat down for a chat with People and shared that he is still in contact with several of his co-stars from the original film like Jed Cohen (who played Rod McCallister), Diana Rein (Sondra McCallister), Terrie Snell (Aunt Leslie), Angela Goethals (Linnie McCallister, and Hillary Wolf (Megan). And though, the cast of the original film are thinking of having a Home Alone reunion of their own, the plans sadly don’t include Macaulay Culkin. Apart from its disappointing “customization” of the 1990 film, all it offers to the OG fans is the return of Devin Ratray, who reprised the character of Kevin’s snarky older brother, Buzz McCallister. Home Sweet Home Alonehasn’t exactly been the trip down nostalgia lane that fans of the original films were expecting. The return of the Home Alone franchise isn’t shaping up to be a satisfying experience for its ardent followers.
